Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert hails his side's performance as "excellent" as they claim a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert has praised his side for an "excellent" performance as they claimed a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon to move away from relegation drama.

The Midlands side moved five points clear of the drop zone thanks to strikes from Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro in each half at the City Ground, and speaking after the game, Lambert admitted that the win had been a "vital" one going into Christmas.

"I thought we were excellent and full value," he told the Express & Star. "We looked really composed against a team that were going well. I think we've got terrific attacking options. We need a little bit more, personnel-wise, but going forward we were excellent.

"It was important to pull clear of the bottom three. But sometimes when you ask the question I think we must be the only team in the bottom three. There's a host of teams just hovering around. I never really look at it too much.

"The win feels a little bit more special. It's a local game, the supporters have come and watched us and it was vital to win three points. There were brilliant scenes at the end. It's great to see. We've got to get that rapport. I saw it against Fulham. That's what can happen when you get that success."

Lambert's side now have a nine-day break before they welcome Bristol City on Boxing Day ahead of Queens Park Rangers' visit to Molineux on New Year's Eve.
