Wolves transfer news: Spanish forward 'turned down' move

:Headline: Wolves transfer news: Spanish forward 'turned down' move:
Wolverhampton Wanderers allegedly failed with an approach for a 24-year-old Spanish forward earlier this year.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly missed out on signing a 24-year-old striker who impressed in La Liga last season earlier this year.

Gary O'Neil is on the lookout for fresh additions after Wolves' lack of depth in the final third was exposed during the second half of 2023-24.

The West Midlands outfit have already got a deal over the line for Braga wide player Rodrigo Gomes, yet Wolves are known to want reinforcements down the centre of the attack.

Over the past 48 hours, it has been claimed that Wolves are on the brink of confirming a deal for Celta Vigo frontman Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Trying to push through a deal for the Norway international has been well received by Wolves fans, yet it appears that an alternative was on their radar at one stage.

Wolves miss out on Romero

According to Vamos Mi Sevilla, Wolves made an attempt to sign Isaac Romero from Sevilla.

Romero's progression at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan has been somewhat of a slow burner with much of his time at the club spent in the reserve setup.

However, during 2023-24, the 24-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough campaign, contributing six goals and four assists from his 16 starts in all competitions.

The report suggests that Wolves decided to make an "important offer" for Romero when it was in doubt whether he would sign a new contract at the La Liga outfit.

Romero instead opted to reject that proposal and pen fresh terms at the beginning of 2024, with that subsequently leading to his time in the first team.

In eight of his 16 appearances, Romero has contributed either a goal or assist, yet his form tailed off during the run-in with just one strike coming from nine appearances.

Romero one of Sevilla's untouchable players?

For the first time since 2012-13, Sevilla do not have any European football to look forward to for next season, and that will have ramifications.

Widespread reports have indicated that sales will be required to fulfil La Liga regulations and balance the books as soon as possible.

As it stands, the wages of Sergio Ramos, Jesus Navas and Erik Lamela have been taken off their outgoings either through free transfers or retirement.

Oliver Torres is also departing as a free agent and several players have returned to their loan clubs, but many of Sevilla's squad members remain up for sale.

Only nine of the current squad have contracts until 2027 and beyond, while just one year is left on the deals of six others. body check tags ::
