Wycombe Wanderers completed a miraculous escape from the League Two relegation zone after beating Torquay United 3-0, condemning Bristol Rovers to the drop as a result.
The Chairboys were ahead inside six minutes when Sam Wood tucked home Matt Bloomfield's cross to the delight of the travelling support.
Wycombe had to endure a couple of nervy moments as both Elliot Benyon and Anthony Stewart went close to netting an equaliser for the Gulls, whose own fate was sealed last weekend by results going against them.
However, Wanderers' own job was made easier just before the break when Anthony O'Connor brought down Matt McClure in the penalty area.
Steven Craig calmly stepped up to send the spot kick beyond Martin rice in the Torquay goal.
Wycombe's task became a lot simpler when O'Connor was sent off for a second bookable offence early in the second half.
The result was put beyond doubt when Matt Ingram's long ball reached McClure who rifled his shot into the roof of the net.
Indeed, with the three points sealed, many fans turned their attention to events at the Memorial Stadium where Bristol Rovers trailed Mansfield Town for much of the game.
When Rovers failed to score, the final whistle was celebrated by delighted Wycombe fans, knowing they had completed the great escape.
