Sports Mole picks apart Birmingham City's first league win of the season at Yeovil Town.

Birmingham City picked up their first league win of the season this afternoon, ending Yeovil Town's 100% start to the new season.

The only goal came soon after half time. It was a flukey winner for Brum as a headed clearance hit the back of Yeovil defender Dan Seaborne's head and looped into the net.

Below, Sports Mole picks the bones out of the 90 minutes at Huish Park.

Match statistics:

Yeovil:
Shots 11
On target 3
Possession 56%
Corners 2
Fouls 9

Birmingham:
Shots 10
On target 5
Possession 44%
Corners 4
Fouls 13

Was the result fair?

Not really, no. Yeovil will be gutted to have lost their first ever home match at Championship level after doing enough to earn a point. The goal was a freak accident and in all honesty it was Yeovil who had the better opportunities.

Yeovil's performance

The Glovers suffered an early blow when keeper Marek Stech came off inside the first 10 minutes with what looked like a sprained wrist. His replacement Gareth Stewart did well in his place and made some good saves but could do nothing about the goal. Up front, James Hayter and Paddy Madden ran a lot but look a little lost in this league.

Birmingham's performance

Not the best from Lee Clark's men, but they got the win and that's all that matters. Clark won't be too pleased with some of the defending, but the performances of Andrew Shinnie and Tom Adeyemi in particular were good. Matt Green does look a little out of place at this level and he will need to improve if he is going to keep his starting place.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Darren Randolph: The Birmingham keeper made some important saves to keep his first clean sheet of the campaign. One in particular stands out. Yeovil captain Byron Webster met Ed Upson's free kick with a powerful, downward header at the back post and the ball looked destined to bounce up into the net until Randolph stuck out his left leg to deflect it onto the crossbar.

Biggest gaffe

No obvious winner here. It goes to Shinnie for his air-header when completely unchallenged in the first half. He should have at least tested Stewart.

Referee performance

Tim Robinson did okay today. At times he was a little card-happy and maybe Neil Eardley should not have even made it to half time. The right-back was booked in the 26th minute but then escaped a second yellow for a studs-up challenge, instead getting a final warning that incensed Yeovil boss Gary Johnson.

What next?

Yeovil: Next up for the Glovers is a trip to Burnley in a week's time.

Birmingham: The Blues, meanwhile, head back to St Andrew's for the visit of Brighton.
