Yeovil Town chairman: 'I understand fans' frustration'

Yeovil Town chairman John Fry responds to recent criticism aimed in his direction by suggesting that he is simply unable to bring in any new players.

Yeovil Town chairman John Fry has insisted that he can understand the frustration felt by supporters following a seven-game winless run.

The Glovers are in real danger of suffering a third successive relegation after picking up just nine points from their opening 15 fixtures.

This alarming slide has left Yeovil in the drop zone and, with the prospect of non-League football next season a real possibility, fans have made their anger known as they called for Fry to leave the club.

However, the Town chief has responded to these concerns by claiming that no new faces can be brought in due to Football League stipulations that are in place.

"I understand how disappointed the supporters must be feeling after the last two relegation seasons," the Western Daily Press quotes him as saying. "They pay their money and they want entertaining football and above all they want to see their team win.

"But these are the facts. The club has had to endure a crippling injury crisis the like of which the manager has never had to contend with in all his life in football. All clubs in the Football League have to work within the new Salary Cap Management Protocol rules, which stipulate that clubs can only spend 55 per cent of their football turnover, and with gate revenue continuing to fall, there is little or no scope to bring in better players.

"Due to the transfer window rules, there are restrictions in bringing new players to Huish Park until the start of next year. Then one will have to go out, before another one can be brought in."

Yeovil face Carlisle United at the weekend prior to a two-week break from league action.
