Fernando Alonso has insisted that he will "fight hard" in tomorrow's Belgian Grand Prix in order to challenge for a podium finish.
The Ferrari driver, who is currently fourth in the drivers' standings, finished just outside the top three in qualifying at Spa earlier today.
Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes qualified first and second respectively, although Alonso says he will pounce on any mistakes in Sunday's race.
"I think the possibility is there, no doubt," ESPN quotes the 33-year-old as saying when asked if he believes that he can claim a top-three finish. "We are in a good position in fourth and we have some people around us with good race pace, like Ricciardo and the Williams and we need to fight hard to be on the podium.
"But we know the Mercedes - even if they look very quick - they have had some mechanical problems in the last races and we need to be there to take any opportunities."
Alonso's fellow Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen finished in eighth place in qualifying.
