Kimi Raikkonen insists the clutch in his Ferrari was to blame for his bad start to the Italian Grand Prix, although the Finn still managed to finish fifth at Monza.

Kimi Raikkonen has blamed the clutch in his Ferrari for his bad start to the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 35-year-old began the race second on the grid but fell into last place within seconds of the start.

However, Raikkonen insists that there was a problem with his clutch as he attempted to get off the grid.

"It went into anti-stall when I let the first clutch go," Raikkonen told reporters.

"As far I understand I did the correct thing, but we can see there's a problem with the second clutch. It was not in the correct place. I'm pretty sure I put it correct as always. I don't know.

"Whatever it was it triggered the anti-stall and after a few seconds I was in last place. I've not had anything like this before."

Raikkonen finished the race in fifth place.
