Christian Horner believes that Renault and Red Bull will have nothing to lose if they "throw caution to the wind" in a bid to improve their performances.
The Milton Keynes-based team have struggled for pace and reliability since the start of 2015 and both of their cars were lapped at last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.
Horner, who married fiance Geri Halliwell on Saturday, has suggested that taking risks may help Red Bull move up the grid.
"I think we are nowhere near winning a grand prix," Horner is quoted by F1i as saying. "We got lapped. Therefore, it is better to focus on getting performance because we are on the back foot anyway, we have nothing to lose by throwing caution to the wind.
"We are not in F1 to make up numbers, we want to compete at the front and if that means taking risks, that is our philosophy and that is what we encourage Renault to do as well."
Red Bull finished second in last year's constructors' championship.
