Angel Cabrera has declared that Adam Scott is a worthy winner of his first Masters title after losing to the Australian in a dramatic playoff at Augusta National.
Scott held his nerve to end a marathon final day victorious and condemn Cabrera to second place with a precise putt on the 10th green.
Cabrera came close to putting his way to a third Major title twice in the playoff but has insisted that he can take comfort from a hard-fought battle for the 32-year-old.
He told reporters just after being confirmed as Masters runner-up: "That is golf. I had the chip on 18, but I am happy for Adam because I know what a true champion he is.
"I obviously would have been happier if I had won, but I know Adam and I like him. I've played with him before at Presidents Cups and we get on well."
Scott's victory earns him the famous Green Jacket and a winners purse of just over £900,000.
