Sergio Garcia shot a 65 on Friday to claim the lead after two rounds of the Shell Houston Open.
The Spaniard's impressive effort helped him to 12-under-par, which matches the 36-hole record at the course in Texas.
Garcia leads Matt Kuchar by one shot heading into the weekend after the American closed his second round with a bogey to prevent him from sharing top spot with the 34-year-old.
Cameron Tringale, Matt Jones and Shawn Stefani are three shots further back on eight-under, while first-round leaders Bill Haas and Charley Hoffman lost ground on their rivals following rounds of 74 and 76 respectively.
