Young Frenchman Gary Stal has produced a shock victory in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, firing a final-round 65 to edge out top European duo Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer.
The 22-year-old's seven-under-par score was the joint-best of the day at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and he finished on 19-under for the tournament, one clear of world number one McIlroy (66).
Kaymer, a three-time champion in the event, started the day six shots clear of the field, but a disastrous three-over 75 saw him fall to third on 17-under.
European Ryder Cup teammate Victor Dubuisson (-16) tied for fourth with Belgian Thomas Pieters.
For world number 357 Stal, it is a first win on the European Tour and his third professional triumph, while McIlroy finishes runner-up at the tournament for the second straight year.
