Former Wales international Nathan Blake has revealed that he was once sent a death threat during his playing career.
The 41-year-old has claimed that he was also the victim of racial abuse, which will automatically result in a minimum match-ban for players who are found guilty of such remarks.
"I was playing for Blackburn and it was not long after Jill Dando had been murdered," Blake told the Daily Mail. "Someone sent me a picture of her with a gun to her head and underneath they wrote, 'You're next'.
"About a year previously I'd received a parcel with nuts inside calling me an f****** monkey and things like that. I thought it was the same idiot. They were probably transfixed on me and thinking they wanted to kill me for some reason. Maybe I'd scored a goal against his team."
Blake played for Cardiff City, Sheffield United, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Leeds United during his career.
