Former Blackburn Rovers defender Colin Hendry has been charged with harassing and assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
The 49-year-old is alleged to have attacked his former partner Sarah Kinder in an incident on April 24, and is also believed to have sent her numerous harassing emails.
Lancashire Police have confirmed that Hendry, who was declared bankrupt in 2010, has been bailed to appear at Blackpool Magistrates' Court on May 26.
The retired sportsman, who earned more than 50 caps for Scotland, also played for Rangers, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Coventry during his career.
