British golfer Greg Owen has apologised for his accent after spending the last 11 years based in America on the PGA tour.
The 43-year-old is originally from Mansfield, but has been based in Florida since taking up a spot on the American tour, resulting in him now speaking with an American accent.
When asked about his accent after carding 68 in the opening round of The Open, the Englishman told reporters: "I'm sorry. I can't help it. The Americans don't hear it but people do when I come back.
"There are things I miss about living here, the atmosphere of going out on a weekend, seeing Nottingham Forest play and family and friends but the kids want for nothing living in the States. And it's 95 degrees now where I live."
Owen has two top 10 finishes on the PGA tour this season.
