Roma legend Francesco Totti has reportedly received nominations to become the next president of Italy.
The 38-year-old is a popular figure in the country, having spent almost 13 years playing for Roma.
It appears that his popularity has spread to politics as Totti received five nominations to lead the country after the chamber of deputies, the senate and 58 regional representatives began voting on Thursday, according to Forza Italian Football.
The footballer received backing during the voting process, despite not standing for election or even being eligible to run.
Former Italy leader Giorgio Napolitano stepped down from his position in January.
