FIFA, FIFPro 'to regulate transfer fees'

FIFA and FIFPro are looking at a plan to reduce spending on player transfers, according to reports.

A new set of official transfer fees could be brought in by football's ruling powers in order to stop the spiralling cost of player recruitment, according to reports.

The People claims that FIFA and global players union FIFPro are looking at introducing a plan to regulate the cost of buying footballers, however the main stumbling block to the plan would be trying to persuade the richest clubs to accept a drop in value of their best talent.

A FIFPro source was quoted as saying: "It is a hard problem to solve but there is a way to do it.

"You could take a player's wage, the time left on his deal and his other commercial 'worth' and come to a total."

This summer has witnessed two of the five most expensive transfers of all time, involving Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez, with Gareth Bale's record-breaking move to Real Madrid taking place last summer.
