Wolverhampton Wanderers managing director Laurie Dalrymple outlines plans to increase the capacity of Molineux in summer 2019.

Wolverhampton Wanderers managing director Laurie Dalrymple has revealed that the club will begin an expansion programme in 2019.

The Midlands outfit have secured promotion to the Premier League as champions of the Championship this season, almost two years on from their acquisition by wealthy Chinese firm Fosun International.

Plans to increase the capacity of their 31,700-seater Molineux home have been mooted for some time, and in 2010 then-owner Steve Morgan outlined a vision to create a 50,000-capacity stadium.

Those proposals were abandoned when the club was last relegated from the top flight, however, although Fosun have now resumed the project with a view to starting works at the end of next season.

"There are a few things up in the air but the plan at this stage is to be in a position where we'd start the redevelopment in summer 2019," Dalrymple told the Express & Star. "We've started those discussions and they've accelerated since Christmas.

"The process is still being debated now in terms of what we think is the right order to do it. But we will be doing that through fan consultation and dialogue with architects and developers that will give us the right approach."

Nuno Espirito Santo's side travel to relegated Sunderland this Sunday for their final game of the campaign looking to break the 100-point barrier.
