Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have moved to within two points of the top eight in the Super League after beating Widnes Vikings 12-10 at Belle Vue tonight.
A strong second-half showing saw the hosts come from behind to move within striking distance of a playoff berth and consign Widnes to their eighth defeat from the last 10 outings.
Danny Tickle touched down for the visitors on 22 minutes to give the Vikings a four-point lead at the break in what proved a quiet opening half in the scoring stakes.
However, Wakefield came to life after the break and soon cruised into a two-point lead, as Tim Smith crossed on 49 minutes before Paul Sykes kicked the extras.
The lead was lengthened to eight points just seven minutes later, as Sykes was again on target after Nick Scruton bagged the Wildcats' second of the evening.
Stefan Marsh crossed over on 68 minutes to ensure that Wakefield would have to fight for their victory, but they proved equal to the battle as James Webster's side held on to boost their playoff prospects.
