Paul Sykes scored an 80th-minute try to give Wakefield Trinity Wildcats a 24-18 win over Widnes Vikings this evening.
The visitors made the brighter start to the match, dominating the possession in the opening 20 minutes to set up tries for Chris Riley and Richard Moore.
However, Widnes started to see more of the ball and were able to get back on level terms by half time thanks for scores from Declan Hulme and Paddy Flynn.
With the scores still level late on, Widnes tried to kick a late penalty to snatch a victory, but Danny Tickle's shot went just wide.
Wakefield looked the more likely to steal the win in the final minutes, and were able to do so when Sykes collected the ball from Jarrod Sammut, who was looking for a drop goal but did not have the space.
The result leaves the Wildcats 11th in the table, while Widnes sit fifth.
