Warrington Wolves flashed their Super League credentials by thumping St Helens 39-12 to prevent them from winning the League Leaders' Shield tonight.
Victory for Nathan Brown's side would have guaranteed St Helens a first shield since 2008, but wins for Castleford Tigers in their final two games could see the Hubcap go to West Yorkshire.
Shannon McDonnell crossed over for the hosts after four minutes as some inside Langtree Park might have been tempted to celebrate early.
However, Stefan Ratchford touched down soon after, before tries from Joel and Michael Monaghan and one from Gareth O'Brien inside a five-minute blitz saw Wolves lead 22-6.
Willie Manu bagged a converted try just after the hour mark to reduce the 16-point deficit to 10.
However, the onslaught continued after the break as tries from Richie Myler, Ryan Atkins and a second from Michael Monaghan capped a strong showing by Wolves.
