Hull Kingston Rovers fall to a narrow 20-16 defeat against Widnes Vikings in their Super League meeting at the Select Security Stadium.

Widnes Vikings have moved up to fifth place in the Super League table courtesy of a slender 20-16 victory over Hull Kingston Rovers at the Select Security Stadium.

The two sides shared a score apiece as Paddy Flynn and Ben Cockayne crossed over inside the opening 16 minutes of the game, which set the tone for the remainder.

Danny Galea then bashed over from close range to give the hosts a foothold in the game, while Jack Owens was successful with his kick in what was the last piece of meaningful play of the half to create just a little breathing space.

It looked to be all over when Flynn touched down for a second time on 54 minutes, shortly after Hull had a try of their own turned down, but Liam Salter and Kris Welham pulled things right back when they found the chalk within three minutes of each other.

Josh Mantellato made no mistake with the follow-up on both occasions to leave just four points in it heading into the final stages, although the Robins fell just short in the end by failing to add a decisive fourth try in the remaining time.
