Widnes Vikings have progressed into the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup after thumping Keighley Cougars 56-6 at the Select Security Stadium tonight.
The seven-time winners, who last won the competition 30 years ago, moved a step closer to claiming an elusive eighth title by running in 10 tries en route to thumping the Championship club.
Chances of a giant-killing decreased measurably inside the opening six minutes as Declan Hulme and Tom Gilmore - who bagged a hat-trick - both ran in early tries to give the visitors a mountain to climb.
Kevin Brown touched down twice to open up a 20-0 lead, before further tries from Jack Owens and Stefan Marsh ensured that the hosts boasted a 32-point advantage at the break.
Willie Isa crossed over for the Vikings' sixth of the evening less than a minute after the restart.
The travelling fans were given something to cheer on 46 minutes, though, as Daley Williams secured a consolation try, with Ben Stead adding the extras.
The onslaught did not subside, however, as Gilmore touched down for his second and third of the encounter later in the half as Denis Betts's men head into the last four with a morale-boosting win.
