Edinburgh needed a penalty try inside the final 10 minutes to clinch a narrow 15-13 win over Bordeaux Begles in their first match in their European Rugby Challenge Cup.
In a quiet first half which saw few chances for either side, only a penalty from Lionel Beauxis could break the deadlock, leaving the hosts just three points up at the break.
The visitors edged ahead at the start of the second half when Tim Visser sprinted over for the opening try, but Baptiste Serin cancelled it out by powering over for Bordeaux a few minutes later.
Beauxis extended the home side's lead further with another penalty, while Phil Burleigh had a 10-minute spell in the sin bin, leaving the French side in control.
However, once Edinburgh were back up to 15 they sought to get a match-winning try, and were awarded one for a scrum infraction by the home side, giving them a narrow victory.
