England rugby sevens head coach Simon Amor has admitted that losing captain Tom Mitchell to injury was a major blow for his side.
Mitchell was forced to limp off in England's final match of the first day at Ibrox as his side fell to a 15-7 defeat at the hands of Australia in the Group D decider.
The 2013-14 IRB World Sevens Player of the Year nominee and World Series top points scorer missed his side's agonising 15-14 defeat to Samoa in the quarter-finals this afternoon, and Amor expressed his pride at how the team performed without their skipper.
Asked whether things may have been different with Mitchell fit, Amor told Sports Mole: "Who knows? Tom wasn't nominated World Player of the Year for nothing, but I'm incredibly proud of the way the guys dug in without Tom on the pitch."
England will now face hosts Scotland in the semi-finals of the plate this evening.
