Stuart Lancaster: 'We let game slip away'

England head coach Stuart Lancaster insists that there are positives to be taken from his side's 24-21 defeat to New Zealand.

Stuart Lancaster has revealed that he was frustrated by England's 24-21 defeat at the hands of New Zealand at Twickenham this afternoon, but insisted there are positives to be taken from the performance.

A stunning Jonny May try inside the opening five minutes had put England ahead, and the home side led 14-11 at half time, but the All Blacks showed their quality in the second half as they turned the screw on the hosts.

"We put ourselves in a position first half to get a win here, and in that third quarter we didn't quite execute as well as we could have done and the game slipped away from us," Lancaster told Sky Sports News.

"Credit to them, they did well. We had opportunities in their half but there were a couple of crucial turnovers. I think our kicking games let us down a little bit in that third quarter, and its little moments like that that really matter at this level.

"Overall, given the preparation we've had and the limited time together, there was a lot of positives as well that I can take from the performance."

The Autumn Internationals continue next weekend as England take on South Africa.
