Exeter Chiefs win the Anglo-Welsh Cup courtesy of a 28-11 victory over Bath on Friday afternoon.

Exeter Chiefs have won the Anglo-Welsh Cup for just the second time in their history courtesy of a 28-11 victory over Bath on Friday afternoon.

It did not take long for Exeter to make their mark, with Jack Innard registering the first try of the match in the fifth minute, before Joe Simmonds converted to open up a 7-0 advantage.

Simmonds then struck two penalties in the space of two minutes for 13-0, but Bath were on the scoresheet in the 18th minute when Freddie Burns managed a penalty goal of his own.

Cooper Vuna's try made it a five-point game in the 24th minute, but Exeter responded strongly as tries from Innard and Toby Salmon, in addition to another conversion from Simmonds, made it 25-8 at the interval.

Burns's second penalty goal of the match in the 55th minute cut the score to 25-11, but Bath, who have not won the Anglo-Welsh Cup since 1996, simply left themselves with too much to do in the second half of action.

Exeter were comfortable as the contest headed for its final 15 minutes, and Simmonds struck yet another penalty in the 68th minute to open up a 28-11 lead, which was ultimately how it finished on the afternoon.
