Aled Thomas kicked six pens to fire Gloucester Rugby to a 18-9 LV= Cup victory over London Welsh at the Kassam Stadium this afternoon.
It took the home side, who lost their opening game of the competition last week, just two minutes to edge ahead when Will Robinson kicked over the game's first penalty.
Shane Cahill and Shaun Knight were both shown yellow cards on 19 minutes when a scrum collapsed, with Thomas levelling up from the boot just moments later.
Welsh had a second man sent to the sin bin when Dean Schofield tripped an opposition player, and Thomas made the advantage count when he found the sticks once more.
The Welshman completed a hat-trick of pens before the interval, although Robinson did likewise to ensure the sides were tied heading into the break.
The second half remained equally as tight with neither team able to find the whitewash, although it was Gloucester, fielding four debutants, who got a foothold on the tryless contest.
Thomas was the hero for the visitors with three more successful penalties in the second half, which was enough for his side to pick up their first win in this year's tournament.
