Lee Smith has switched codes to join Newcastle Falcons from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
The 27-year-old has signed a deal with the Aviva Premiership club that is due to run until the end of next season.
The move comes after Wakefield released Smith from the remainder of his contract at Belle Vue.
Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards told the club's official website: "Lee is a quality signing for the club and is a proven try-scorer at the highest level in rugby league.
"I'm confident that he can replicate his talent in the 15-aside code, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing him in action in the Aviva Premiership."
It is the second time that Smith has joined a rugby union club in the top flight following a brief spell with London Wasps during the 2009-10 campaign.
