Newcastle Falcons back-row Mark Wilson has insisted that his side can still end the campaign on a high.
The Falcons, who have faced a run of disappointing defeats of late, travel to the Madejski Stadium on Sunday knowing a victory against London Irish will essentially secure their top-flight status.
"It has been a really frustrating season for us because if you look at our results it could have been a completely different story quite easily," Wilson is quoted as saying by The Journal.
"The club have made some really great signings for next season and we want to make sure that we have built momentum for next season.
"That's the most important thing for us – to finish this season as strong as we possibly can and finish with a good run to take into next season."
Newcastle are nine points clear of bottom-placed Worcester Warriors.
