Newcastle Falcons recover from conceding a first-minute try to beat Gloucester Rugby 20-10 in the Aviva Premiership, thanks to Rory Clegg's impressive kicking display.

Newcastle Falcons recorded just their third win of the Aviva Premiership season with a 20-10 victory over Gloucester Rugby this evening.

John Afoa touched down in the first minute for Gloucester, but Rory Clegg's impressive kicking display saw Newcastle come from behind at Kingston Park.

Billy Burns, who replaced England international Billy Twelvetrees at fly-half, added the extras to the early try from the New Zealand winger.

However, a trio of successful penalties from Clegg in the space of 11 minutes saw the Falcons establish a 9-7 advantage at the break.

Another three points from Clegg preceded Newcastle's only try, scored by Sinoti Sinoti, as the hosts went 10 clear within four minutes of the restart.

A 55th-minute Burns kick was all that Gloucester could muster in the second half, and it was apt that Clegg had the last word with a fifth penalty which completed the scoring.

Newcastle climb one place to 10th in the table, while David Humphreys's side remain eighth.
