Ospreys have ended their European Rugby Champions Cup campaign with a late 23-20 defeat at the hands of Treviso this evening.
The Italian outfit came into the game on the back of five successive defeats in the showpiece competition, and things looked to be heading in the same direction when James King crossed over for his first try of the season.
However, a penalty from the boot of Jayden Hayward, which was soon followed up by Angelo Esposito crossing over, ensured that it was the home side who were ahead with half an hour played.
The TMO had be called into action to determine whether Eli Walker had successfully touched down for his side, and, after some deliberation, the try was awarded to the relief of the Welsh outfit.
Once more Treviso hit back, though, firstly through another successful Hayward kick, before Marco Barbini found the chalk in the closing seconds of the half.
The tightly-contested match, which was essentially a dead-rubber in terms of either sides' hopes of progression, took another twist when Sam Davies split the sticks with his penalty on 52 minutes, and the comeback looked to be complete when Richard Fussell crossed over for the first time this term.
Yet, as the clock hit 80, the referee awarded Umberto Casellato's men a penalty try, which dramatically ensured that they ended their European campaign with a long-awaited win.
The points are not quite enough to lift them off bottom spot in the Pool Five standings, however, with Ospreys, who rested a number of key players for this contest, five points ahead in third place.
