Sale Sharks have confirmed that former number eight David Tait has passed away at the age of 25.
Tait, who was also known to play as flanker, is believed to have died after falling from an apartment block in Hong Kong.
Chief executive of the Rugby Players' Association Damien Hopley told the club's official website: "The rugby community will be shattered by the passing of such a gifted and popular young man who was respected by everyone he played alongside.
"He wasn't simply a talented rugby player, he was also extremely bright and successful in his life outside of rugby. We will do everything we can to help support David's family and the players who played alongside him. His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers."
Tait left Sale in 2010 due to a host of injuries after beginning his professional career at the club in 2005.
