The Sale Sharks have finished top of Pool 1 in the Challenge Cup thanks to an edgy 9-7 win away to Biarritz Olympique on the final day, which has put them in the quarter-finals.
Sale won the reverse fixture 33-10 earlier, which meant that they would finish top of the pool barring a thrashing, but they made sure with a win thanks to a late Rob Miller penalty.
Both sides gave away a lot of penalties in the opening 15 minutes, but once the game settled slightly, the French side went ahead through a Taku Ngwenya try after a chip through, which was then converted by Julien Peyrelongue.
On 22 minutes Miller kicked to reduce the deficit, which went down to just one a few minutes later thank to another penalty.
It stayed that way until the 78th minute when Miller, who had missed a kick just a few moments earlier, kept his nerve to put one through the posts from a central position on the field.
