Mark McCall has admitted that he was "a little disappointed" by Saracens' performance in their opening match of the new Aviva Premiership season, despite the team securing a win.
The team lead by 11 points at half time, but trailed for much of the second half before David Strettle completed a hat-trick late on to secure a 34-28 win over London Wasps.
The director of rugby told the league's website: "We were a little disappointed with how we played, the first-half scoreline certainly flattered us. The problems were across the board, everything was a little bit off.
"But we showed enough class and enough quality and strength of character to come back a couple of times. The final play of the game was magnificently run, but we are sensible enough to know this wasn't our best performance and there's plenty to work on.
"We have some tough games on the road coming up, so getting some points on the board was really important and we're delighted we had enough."
Strettle was the team's top try-scorer last season with 11.
