Stanislas Wawrinka has reached the third round of the Italian Open with a three-set victory over Benoit Paire.
The world number four had won just two matches on clay ahead of his defence of Roland Garros later this month, but he extended that to three victories with a fine comeback against Paire.
The Frenchman had beaten Wawrinka in Marseille earlier in 2016 and he looked on his way to another triumph when taking the first set.
However, he won just three games during the remainder of the contest as Wawrinka broke serve on five occasions to register a 5-7 6-2 6-1 win.
The Swiss will now play Juan Monaco on Thursday after the Argentine defeated Kevin Anderson earlier on Tuesday.
