Cameron Norrie defeated by Daniil Medvedev in Los Cabos final

World number one Daniil Medvedev defeats defending champion Cameron Norrie 7-5 6-0 in the final of the Los Cabos Open.

Cameron Norrie was unable to make it back-to-back Los Cabos Open titles as he went down in straight sets to world number one Daniil Medvedev in Saturday's final.

The Wimbledon semi-finalist had defeated Brandon Nakashima in the 2021 final and saw off Felix Auger-Aliassime to make it to the showpiece event this time around, but Medvedev secured a 7-5 6-0 success.

Norrie did manage to break Medvedev's serve when the Russian was one game away from taking a tightly-contested first set, but the Russian responded with an immediate break of his own.

Medvedev - who missed Wimbledon due to their ban on Russian and Belarusian players - required treatment on his hand after scraping it across the court in the first set, but he dispatched Norrie with ease in the second to serve the Brit a bagel.

"Cam is an amazing player, so it was really intense. When you play against him, you know that you have to fight for every point," Medvedev said during his on-court interview.

"In the final, you play the best player of this week, so it's always a high-level match and I'm really happy that I managed to show some good level, some good shots in such an important match."

Medvedev did not drop a single set on his way to a 14th ATP singles title and a first since his US Open triumph in September 2021, while Norrie now has a record of four wins and seven defeats from his 11 singles finals. body check tags ::
