Tomas Berdych overcomes Andy Murray after a tough test in France to reach the semi-finals of the Paris Masters.

Tomas Berdych has fought his way to a spot in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters after ending Andy Murray's winning run.

The world number five forced the match to go the distance and clinched the win with a 4-6 7-6[5] 4-6 scoreline.

The opening set was fairly matched between the two competitors, with Murray slightly edging it after claiming the first break of the contest.

The Scot looked likely to take the lead until his Czech opponent prevented him from snatching the first set despite reaching a seventh set point in one game.

While Berdych continued to press and hit some impressive shots, Murray eventually took control and closed the set to claim the advantage.

The second set started off well for the world number five after he broke the number two seed in the Scot's first service game.

Murray slumped in the early stages of the second set and committed his first double fault of the match which caused Berdych to lead the set by three games to love.

The two contenders battled it out with the Czech dipping in form slightly, but he produced enough effort to push the match to a deciding set by winning the tie-break.

As the final set got underway both players began to tire, with each game favouring the serve. However, the Czech was the first to claim the break and went on to defeat the frustrated British number one.

Berdych will face either Juan Monaco or Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
