Defending Sony Ericsson Open champion Novak Djokovic has begun the defence of his title with a solid straight-sets win over former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis.
The top seed won 73 percent of points on his serve and saved two break points in the second set to see-off the charismatic Cypriot 6-4 6-4.
World number one Djokovic has now played Baghdatis on seven occasions and has been victorious on every meeting.
The Serb, who is bidding to win his third Miami title, will now face compatriot Viktor Troicki in round three after the 27th seed overcame Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 4-6 6-1 6-4.
