Philipp Kohlschreiber has reached the last 16 of the Barcelona Open thanks to a 7-6(4) 6-2 victory over Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
The German broke early and raced out to a 3-0 lead but then couldn't open up a double-break advantage as he squandered four break points in the fourth game.
Roger-Vasselin made Kohlschreiber pay by breaking back in the next game.
The pair couldn't be separated for the remainder of the set so a tie-break was needed and it was 10th seed Kohlschreiber who came out on top 7-4.
Frenchman Roger-Vasselin didn't compete so well in the second, failing to earn a break point and having his serve broken twice as Kohlschreiber eased to a 6-2 success.
He will face either Jurgen Melzer or Jerzy Janowicz in the third round.
