China's Li Na advanced through to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open courtesy of a 7-6 6-2 victory over Spanish teenager Garbine Muguruza earlier today.
Li, who has been playing at her first event since the Australian Open because of an ankle injury, raced into a 5-1 lead in the opening set, only to then be broken twice as Muguruza battled back to level up proceedings at five games apiece.
As the set went into a tie-breaker, Li again opened up a big advantage, but from 6-1 up she was soon pegged back to 6-6. However, on this occasion the world number five was able to win through 8-6.
The second set was much more straightforward for the Chinese number one though and when Muguruza double-faulted on match point, it allowed Na to book her place in the last eight.
She will now take on either Serena Williams or Dominika Cibulkova for a slot in the semi-finals.
