Maria Sharapova has been knocked out in the fourth round of Wimbledon with a three-set defeat to Angelique Kerber.
The former champion lost the opening set 7-4 in a tie-break, but she was able to level the match by taking the second 6-4 thanks to two breaks of the Kerber serve.
However, the German ninth seed powered into a commanding 3-0 lead in the decider before sealing the win 7-6(4) 4-6 6-4 after converting her seventh match point.
Kerber will now face 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada for a place in the semi-finals.
