Former WWE champion John Cena has revealed that he will miss the next "four to six months" through injury.
Cena has been competing through the pain barrier for the past month, with a severely swollen elbow noticeable during his matches.
The Massachusetts star announced on Monday Night RAW that he will now take time off to undergo surgery to repair a torn triceps, with his return not expected until January.
Cena lost the WWE title to Daniel Bryan at Summerslam on Sunday night.
