Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Wigan Athletic and Shrewsbury Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Wigan Athletic will have the chance to claim a third consecutive victory when they welcome Shrewsbury Town in Saturday's League One contest.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking for a positive response after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers in midweek.

Match preview

After enduring a run of four consecutive league defeats, Wigan appear to have turned a corner in their previous two outings.

Goals from Martial Godo and Jordan Jones guided the Latics to a 2-0 victory in last Saturday's away meeting with Exeter City.

They went on to repeat that scoreline in midweek, as Stephen Humphrys and Callum Lang grabbed a goal apiece to secure Wigan a notable win over second-placed Oxford United.

Despite collecting back-to-back league victories, Shaun Maloney's side remains in the relegation zone due to their eight-point deduction.

The Latics, who are currently three points adrift from safety, will now look to claim a third consecutive victory for the first time in League One this season.

As for Shrewsbury, they head into the weekend in 15th position after collecting 17 points from their 14 league matches.

After enduring a six-game winless league run (D1, L5), Shrewsbury halted their poor run of form by taking seven points from three matches prior to Tuesday's away meeting with Barnsley.

However, their encouraging spell of form was brought to an abrupt end as goals from Herbie Kane, Callum Styles and Devante Cole condemned Matthew Taylor's side to a 3-0 loss.

Shrewsbury, who are the second-lowest scorers in the division, have now failed to register more than one goal in each of their last 11 league games.

Saturday's visitors are also are winless in five competitive away matches, while their only away win of the season took place against Fleetwood Town on August 26.

Team News

Wigan will still have to cope without the services of the injured Matt Smith, while Saturday's contest may come too soon for Jason Kerr.

Midfielder Scott Smith is also unlikely to feature for the hosts after missing Tuesday's victory over Oxford with a concussion.

Lang came off the bench to score Wigan's second goal in midweek, and the 25-year-old could be rewarded with a place in the starting lineup.

Shrewsbury, meanwhile, will have to contend with a number of injury absentees, including Ryan Finnigan, Morgan Feeney, George Nurse and Kieran Phillips.

Jordan Shipley and Elliot Thorpe are closing in on a return to action, but they are unlikely to feature in Saturday's away clash.

Defender Jason Sraha is expected to be fit to take his place in the side despite being forced off with a knock in midweek.

Wigan Athletic possible starting lineup:
Tickle; Clare, Hughes, Morrison; Sessegnon, Shaw, Adeeko, Jones; Humphrys, Godo, Lang

Shrewsbury Town possible starting lineup:
Marosi; Flanagan, Dunkley, Sraha, Benning; Winchester, Kenneh, Perry, Bayliss; Mata, Udoh

We say: Wigan Athletic 2-1 Shrewsbury Town

Wigan would have taken confidence from their last two results, and with Shrewsbury struggling on the road, we think that the Latics will add three more points to their tally on Saturday.
