Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith has announced that he will retire from the NFL at the end of the 2015 season.
The 36-year-old was selected in the third round of the 2001 Draft by the Carolina Panthers and played 13 seasons with the club, earning two All-Pro berths.
Smith was allowed to leave the NFC South side at the end of the 2013 season and joined the Ravens, where he enjoyed an impressive first season, but the veteran has now revealed that the next campaign will be his last in the league.
He told reporters: "I feel like this is the best place, if this is going to be the end, this will be the best place to end.
"I think it's always easier when you know you have a finish line. You get to let things loose, it's just, man, whatever happens, let the chips fall where they may."
The wideout has recorded 915 receptions for 13,262 yards and 57 touchdowns in his 14-year career.
