Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown has revealed that he is unsure whether his side will be able to lock down quarterback Andy Dalton to a new deal.
The 26-year-old will enter his fourth season with the club when the 2014 campaign gets underway, marking the last year he is currently under contract with the Bengals.
If a new deal can't be reached Dalton will be a free agent when the league year commences next year.
"We are going to try to get something done but I don't know if we are going to be able to or not," Brown told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
"At some point we are going to have to do something more than just let everyone else leave waiting to get something done with that situation.
"We held back this year trying to put ourselves in a position to get him done. If it turns out it can't be made to work we will do something elsewhere. I don't think we plan to go another year the way we did this year."
Dalton threw for 4,269 yards along with 33 touchdowns to 20 interceptions in the 2013 season.
