St Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has confirmed that offensive tackle Jake Long torn his ACL and MCL on Sunday and will be out for the season.
The incident occurred in the Rams' win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Edward Jones Dome as the 28-year-old fell awkwardly on the turf.
Fisher told reporters: "It was confirmed that Jake has a torn ACL and MCL, so with respect to the fact that the MCL has been damaged, we would expect surgery to be delayed four to six weeks.
"He understands what's ahead, he's shocked right now but he has indicated to us that he's good to go. It was non-contact and it was one of those weird things that just happen."
Long played in all 15 games this season following his off-season move from the Miami Dolphins.
