Australia captain Michael Clarke admits that he is pleased with the progress made in his recovery from injury ahead of the World Cup.

Australia's Michael Clarke has claimed that he is happy with his current condition after stepping up his bid to recover from a hamstring injury.

Clarke turned out for a Cricket Australia XI in a victory over Bangladesh, and he managed to bowl two overs of spin before hitting 34 from 36 balls.

It still remains unclear whether the 33-year-old will be fully fit for the World Cup ahead of Australia's opener against England next Saturday.

"In my opinion, there's still a gap between where I am now and playing a one-day international for Australia," Clarke told reporters.

"But the fortunate thing is I've got plenty of time to close that gap. I'm trying to get fit and healthy as soon as possible, and then the experts will make those decisions."

Australia had initially planned to welcome Clarke back into the team for the match against Bangladesh on February 21, but it now appears that he could be back sooner to take the captaincy from Steve Smith, who was set to deputise for the England game.
