England batsman Michael Carberry has claimed that former Australia bowler Shane Warne gave him confidence to forge a career in Test cricket.
The 33-year-old, who took influence from Warne during the Australian's captaincy at Hampshire, scored his maiden England hundred alongside Alastair Cook in their Ashes warm-up clash in Hobart.
"I think Shane Warne is basically the reason why I actually got a chance to play Test cricket," BBC Sport quotes Carberry as saying.
"I was a young guy, a little bit lost in county cricket. I came to Hampshire and from day one, he made me feel very much at home and gave me the backing every young player needs."
Carberry's performance could put him in contention to feature in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane later this month.
