India in command as England struggle with bat

England face a huge task to avoid losing the second Test against India after their top order struggled on day two in Visakhapatnam.

A poor performance from England's top order has left them facing a huge battle to save the second Test match with India.

Alastair Cook's side began the day looking for quick wickets after only restricting India to 319-4 during the first three sessions, but despite registering three dismissals during the opening 15 overs, they allowed their hosts to reach 455 in Visakhapatnam.

James Anderson was the pick of the bowlers after taking 3-62 on his return to the team but his good work was quickly undone as England lost five wickets before stumps.

Cook went for just two before Haseeb Hameed (13) was at fault for a run-out involving himself and Joe Root, but Root was able to kick on to reach his half-century.

However, after Ben Duckett was dismissed for five, Root gave his wicket away with a miscued shot into the air and England were reduced to 80-5 when Moeen Ali (1) was trapped in front of his stumps.

England ended the day with a rate of just 2.1 runs per over but there will be a sense of relief after Ben Stokes (12*) and Jonny Bairstow (12*) saw out the remaining 15 overs of the day.

When play resumes on Saturday, England will require another 152 runs to avoid the follow-on.
