Aberdeen have progressed to the third round in Europa League qualifying by beating Groningen 2-1 in their second-leg clash in the Netherlands tonight.
First-half strikes from Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn gave the Dons two precious away goals following last week's goalless first leg at Pittodrie.
Maikel Kieftenbeld reduced the deficit for the hosts on the night, but the Dutch side were unable to get the two goals necessary to progress as Aberdeen now prepare to face Spanish outfit Real Sociedad in the next round.
Derek McInnes's side took a giant step toward the third round on 26 minutes, as Rooney converted a penalty to give the visitors the upper hand in the tie.
The Scots could then start dreaming of their Sociedad clash just seven minutes later, as McGinn reacted quickest to poke home a second after Rooney's initial effort struck the bar.
Kieftenbeld threw his side a lifeline by reducing the arrears just before the break, but a goalless second half rendered this nothing more than a consolation.
